Explain how an LDR can supply a digital alarm input.

An LDR changes resistance with illumination. A divider converts this into voltage; a threshold/comparator stage converts voltage into a defined logic level. Then gates combine that condition with an armed-state input. A raw analog LDR voltage is not automatically a valid 0 or 1 at every light level.
