Practice question from chapter text

Why are metals conductors while glass and rubber are usually insulators?

دھات موصل اور شیشہ و ربڑ عموماً غیر موصل کیوں ہیں؟

Solution & explanation

Metals have mobile electrons that respond to a field. In ordinary glass or rubber charges are much less free to move, so sustained conduction is small. Insulators can still polarize and can break down in strong fields; “insulator” does not mean no electrical response under any condition.
