Practice question from chapter text
What controls sound speed, and why must temperature be specified for air?
آواز کی رفتار کن چیزوں پر ہے اور ہوا کا درجہ حرارت کیوں بتانا چاہیے؟
Solution & explanation
Speed depends on a medium’s elasticity and inertia, and in gases strongly on temperature. Air sound speed is about 343 m s⁻¹ near 20°C and lower near 0°C. Saying sound is fastest merely because density is greatest is incomplete: stiffness relative to density matters.
